Works

Nona was a prolific creator of all things beautiful covering all her disciplines.  She would exhibit her work extensively for the purpose of not only selling her work, but also just to share in her love of art.  By diligently pursuing her passion, Nona was able to achieve success as an artist.  She was well known and respected and people truly appreciated her art.  As an extension of this, she would exhibit her work at local fairs and in competitions alike.  "The Art Department has proven one of the greatest successes of the Fair.  So much interest has been taken in this work and so many entries made that the space allowed was taxed, proving that another year special arrangements will have to be made to house this growing department."  Further, "the judges praised highly the work of the exhibitors and wished they had prizes to award to many more fine specimens in both oil, water color and china painting."

JUDGING & LECTURES

In addition to her long career of teaching art, Nona invested her time judging many art competitions as well as giving lectures.  Some examples include the December 1930 presentation she gave of her original pictures of the "Passion Play."  While traveling in Europe in the summer of 1930, she made her study of the "Passion Play" which included meeting and spending time with the cast of original characters.

Another example was presented in May 1933, where Nona presented the "most interesing program on the development of art as shown by paintings in the Metropolitan Museum." "Mrs. Hodge [gave] an illustrated art lecture beginning with the golden age of art and coming down through the ages to the present time.  The development of art was shown by pictures of leading artist of various schools.  Sistine Madonnas were especially beautiful. The artists have incorporated in these paintings a depth of color & feeling which was instantly appreciated by those attending."
